TEACHING, PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT & COMMUNITY BUILDING

Exchange of ideas and collaborative processes are a major part of my art practice. It includes teaching, portfolio reviews, workshops, artist talks and other forms of public engagement.

I have worked with various cultures and different age groups. 

ART THROUGH MUD (2021)

'Art Through Mud', an educational workshop that I volunteered to conduct for secondary year students from Mashal Model School (charity school). The workshop was conducted outdoor in nature. Students were introduced to the concept of environmental sustainability and taught to make paints from mud and natural food colors. They painted a landscape with their hands using the mud paint and signed off the painting by stamping their handprints. Students also coated plastic toys with mud and dried leaves to recycled the toys into 3D artworks.

ARTIST TALK (2019)

Was part of an artist talk for the book launch of 'Three Contemporary Artists' by Iffat Saeed. The talk was held at The University of Punjab where I spoke about my contemporary art practice, my traditional training in miniature painting and the link between art and poetry.

Miniature Painting and Beyond (2017)

I co-taught the course 'Miniature Painting and Beyond' at Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts, Austria. The course was an introduction to the centuries-old traditional technique of miniature painting, from the Indian subcontinent. It included crafting tools such as brush, wasli-(paper), and processing the paints/pigments in a traditional way. Demonstrations were an important part of the course, and included different techniques of making a miniature painting (pencil, Siyyah Qalam, Gad’rang, gilding and bordermaking). The course ended with a talk on the revival of contemporary miniature painting in Pakistan.

WORKSHOP AT ASL (2016)

I volunteered to conduct a workshop on the traditional techniques of Indo-Persian miniature painting at The League Residency at VYT, New York. The residents used the traditional technique to create contemporary art.
